SUVs Force Volvo V60 Cross Country Into Retirement

Another Volvo car will soon be retired. After the S60 compact sedan and the V60 wagon, it will be the more adventurous V60 Cross Country’s turn to leave the North American market.

In a press release, Volvo mentioned that orders will end in late January and production will cease in April. Dealers will sell off the remaining inventory throughout 2026.

To be clear, Volvo will continue to offer the V60 Cross Country in some other markets, including Europe.

On this side of the Atlantic, where SUVs reign supreme, the Swedish manufacturer prefers to move away from wagons and focus on SUVs and crossovers, which are largely responsible for its success. Just think of the XC90, XC60 and XC40. In addition, the lineup includes the fully electric EX30, EX40 and EC40, not to mention the upcoming EX60 that’s set to debut later this year.

Going back to the sleek V60 Cross Country, a single, fully equipped model (Ultra) is now available in Canada, starting at an all-inclusive price of $65,938. Its four-cylinder engine with mild hybrid technology produces 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque while achieving an average fuel consumption of 8.9 L/100 km. Cargo space is 1,431 litres with the rear seats folded, and maximum towing capacity is rated at 2,000 lbs.

By comparison, the popular XC60 burns 9 L/100 km when equipped with the same engine, carries up to 1,543 litres of cargo and can tow up to 3,500 lbs. It is available in Core, Plus, Ultra or Black Edition trim, with prices ranging from $61,288 to $73,738.

Unlike the sedan, the XC60 can also be specified with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that boasts impressive performance (455 hp, 523 lb-ft) and pure electric range (58 km).
