Mitsubishi Appears to Tease Montero Revival
Remember the Mitsubishi Montero? It's quite possible you don't. This rugged midsize SUV was discontinued in North America way back in 2006 as the Japanese automaker turned to smaller and more urban-oriented vehicles.
However, all signs point to the Montero making a comeback in the near future. First, a new SUV with a boxy silhouette, hidden under camo, was spotted undergoing testing by spy photographers in recent months. Then, a few days ago, a short 60-second video was released on Mitsubishi's YouTube channel.

The clip features shots of Mitsubishi vehicles in the World Rally Championship and the Dakar Rally, followed by a Mitsubishi Ralliart Triton race truck participating in the 2025 Asia Cross Country Rally. It ends with a Pajero racing in the desert followed by a mysterious SUV driving on a highway.
Pajero is what the Montero was called in several other parts of the globe, where Mitsubishi continued to sell it until 2021.
From what we can tell, the maker of the Outlander, Eclipse Cross and RVR is about to add some serious muscle and adventure to its model lineup. When can we expect a debut? No official information has been released yet, but it should happen in the first half of 2026, likely with a launch date in 2027.

In the “Momentum 2030” business plan announced in May 2024, Mitsubishi confirmed two all-new vehicles for market segments in which the company does not currently compete. One of them is a small electric crossover derived from the Nissan LEAF, due in the summer of 2026, and the other would logically be the new Montero, a twin of the future Nissan Xterra.
