Subaru Impreza’s Demise to Continue Into 2026
Subaru’s 2026 models continue to arrive, and the Impreza hatchback is being amputated once again. Two years after a complete redesign that eliminated the sedan, leaving only the five-door body style, Subaru Canada has decided to simplify the lineup by eliminating the top-of-the-line Sport-tech model.
As a result, 2026 Impreza customers will have the choice between the Convenience and Touring models equipped with a 2.0-litre engine (152 horsepower), as well as the sportier RS model featuring a 2.5-litre engine (182 horsepower).

Content remains essentially unchanged. The same goes for the colour palette, except for Citrus Yellow which replaces Oasis Blue. We doubt this will help boost Impreza sales, which were down 7 percent in Canada after the first three quarters of 2025.
No longer the bargain it once was, Subaru's compact car is now by far the least popular in its class, although it still ranks among the least expensive all-wheel-drive vehicles in the country. Recently, U.S. magazine Consumer Reports even put the Impreza at the top of its list of the most reliable 2026 models, which is quite an honour.
Many shoppers understandably prefer its sibling, the Crosstrek, which offers basically the same features and attributes but with a slightly elevated driving position. Thanks to a 14-percent increase in Canadian sales for three-quarters of the year, it ranked second among subcompact SUVs (only the Nissan Kicks did better). In fact, the Crosstrek is outselling the Impreza more than 10-to-1.
Does the Impreza even have a future? Given how things are evolving, it's certainly a valid question. Subaru Canada, for its part, is not commenting on future plans.
