Nine Years Later, Dodge Recalls 20,000 Darts in Canada

Remember the Dodge Dart? The company and many of its customers likely would rather forget about it. We're not talking about the original Dart, here, but rather the Fiat-derived compact sedan that was sold under that name from 2013 to 2016 in North America.

Oddly enough, six brand new Darts were sold in the U.S. from July to September inclusively, nine years after they were discontinued. How can that happen?

Anyway, the car also made headlines recently when nearly 300,000 units were recalled south of the border due to a serious transmission issue. We've just learned that a little over 20,000 more are in the same situation in Canada.

According to Transport Canada, the shifter cable may detach in some cases. As a result, the transmission may not shift gears when the shifter is moved. Additionally, the vehicle could roll away if it isn't in the Park (P) position and the parking brake isn't applied.

The recall only affects units equipped with an automatic transmission, to be clear. Several were repaired as part of a previous recall in 2019, but they will require another dealer visit and new repair.

A fix is still under development. Dodge’s parent company Stellantis assures that it has not received any reports of accidents related to this problem so far. Affected owners will be notified by mail starting in early November.
