Nissan and Roush Unveil Brawny 2026 Frontier PRO-4X R

The Nissan Frontier may not be the most modern or powerful mid-size pickup truck on the market. With star players like the Ford Ranger and GMC Canyon/Chevrolet Colorado constantly reinventing themselves to appeal to an increasingly demanding range of buyers, the modest Frontier struggles to compete in terms of popularity. In its defence, it scores high marks for reliability and offers good overall value.

Today, Nissan is partnering for the first time with Roush, a leading industry tuner, to appeal off-road-ready mid-size pickup truck aficionados. Proposed by the manufacturer as a certified dealer-installed package, the Frontier PRO-4X R by Roush pushes the boundaries of what we're used to seeing in Nissan pickups.

This R variant features a Roush Performance x Ohlins 2.0 suspension with external reservoirs that raises the truck 2 inches at the front to improve approach and departure angles. This suspension is complemented by new upper control arms that are more robust than the original equipment.

In terms of rubber, the PRO-4X R by Roush is equipped with 17-inch titanium-finished off-road wheels fitted with Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme 265/70R17 off-road tires. The truck also features a set of skid plates that protect vital components under the chassis.

Physically, the front bumper features titanium inserts and lava red tow hooks. The Roush signature “R” emblem is found throughout the exterior and cabin, including on the grille, tailgate, fenders, and headrests.

Unfortunately, it should be noted that last July, Nissan Canada suspended imports of three models, including the Murano, Pathfinder, and Frontier. As a result, we can only speculate on the eventual availability of the 2026 Frontier and this R package. Imports of these models are expected to resume once the Canadian and US governments reach an agreement on tariffs.
