Jeff Koons Lends Artistic Talent To Create 17th BMW Art Car

The various art cars by BMW are definitely something of an automotive oddity. Having become something of a tradition, they truly blend automotive excellence in engineering with artistic excellence. And Jeff Koons is the latest in a long line of artists with an art car to call his own... sort of.
Laying his brush (so to speak) upon the latest BMW M3 GT2 race car, Koons worked with BMW’s racing team for four months to ensure that his wild, speed-themed paint scheme didn’t negatively influence the car’s aerodynamics.

"These race cars are like life, they are powerful and there is a lot of energy," said Koons. "You can participate with it, add to it and let yourself transcend with its energy. There is a lot of power under that hood and I want to let my ideas transcend with the car – it's really to connect with that power."

Having had a chance to blast around a track in the very car he worked on, Koons came away with a newfound appreciation for the absolutely mind-blowing performance the M3 GT2 possesses. Hopefully, that mind-blowing performance will be enough to trump the team’s competition when the car finally debuts at Le Man later this year.
