2026 Honda CR-V Won’t Cost You Less Than $40,000 Before Tax

Inflation continues to hit Honda vehicles, as evidenced by the updated 2026 CR-V arriving this week at Canadian dealerships. Prices are up around $500-$700 versus the current 2025 models.

The base LX FWD model starts at an all-inclusive price of $40,111. To be fair, standard equipment has been upgraded and now includes a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger.

Adding AWD bumps the price to $42,911. Set aside another $3,600 to move up to the CR-V Sport, which is the only other model powered by the turbocharged 1.5-litre engine (190 hp, 179 lb-ft).

Honda says hybrids now represent over 40 percent of its total sales in Canada. When it comes to the 2026 CR-V, four models are available: Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid and Touring Hybrid (204 hp, 247 lb-ft). The cheapest will cost you at least $49,032, while the most luxurious can be yours for a whopping $54,332.

The latter receives a new Individual drive mode allowing you to customize the driving experience with individual settings, including throttle response, steering assist and more. In other news, all hybrid models get a 10.2-inch, fully digital instrument panel, while off-road traction management (at speeds below 14 km/h) has been enhanced on AWD-equipped CR-Vs.

CR-V TrailSport Hybrid is a Mild Off-Roader

As previously reported, the big news for 2026 is the addition of the CR-V TrailSport Hybrid. Retailing from $50,432, this model stands out with a silver skid garnish on the bumpers, a gloss black rear spoiler, orange TrailSport badges on the grille and liftgate, an exclusive Ash Green Pearl exterior colour, as well as Continental CrossContact ATR all-terrain tires mounted on unique Shark Gray 18-inch wheels.

Inside, the cabin features a TrailSport logo embroidered on the front seat headrests and molded onto the standard all-season rubber floor mats. Amber-coloured ambient lighting in the footwells, overhead console, door handle pocket door tray and cupholders add a warm touch, as well.

Alas, that's where the modifications essentially end. There’s no beefed-up suspension or extra ground clearance, for example. A roof rack is optional. What’s more, combined fuel consumption increases from 6.4 to 6.7 L/100 km according to Natural Resources Canada. And based on our CR-V Hybrid test drives, you’ll have a tough time matching these numbers.

What About the Competition?

The 2026 Honda CR-V easily ranks among the least affordable compact SUVs on the market. For example, it’s approximately $6,500 more expensive than the completely redesigned 2025 Subaru Forester, which comes with all-wheel drive as standard. However, the latter offers only one hybrid model, priced from $50,863.

You'll also save several thousand dollars with the electrified variants of the Ford Escape, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Mitsubishi Outlander. In fact, before you go and spend all your money on a fully loaded CR-V, remember that you could get a plug-in hybrid SUV capable of driving 50 km or more without burning any gas for roughly the same price, maybe even less.

As for the all-new 2026 Toyota RAV4, set to go on sale by the end of this year, prices are not yet available, but the outgoing model is slightly cheaper than the CR-V.
