Mitsubishi Reportedly Set to Launch Small Electric Crossover in 2026
Mitsubishi is one of last few car companies not offering a single electric vehicle right now, but things will change in 2026 when a battery-powered crossover will join the lineup.
The announcement was made by Mitsubishi to its dealers at a meeting this past weekend, according to reports from various U.S. media outlets.

The small Japanese automaker, which killed the i-MiEV microcar in 2017, will get a fresh start with advanced new EV technology—the details of which remain unspecified at the moment—and a package that’s bound to attract a lot more potential customers.
We’re talking about a coupe-style crossover that might resemble the Nissan Leaf’s successor, drawing inspiration from the Chill-Out concept we saw in 2021 (pictured above). It’s expected to be based on the same CMF-EV platform as the Nissan Ariya.
In the “Momentum 2030” business plan announced in May of 2024, Mitsubishi said it would launch a new or completely refreshed vehicle each year between 2026 and 2030. Among them will be two all-new models for market segments in which the company does not currently compete.
Before we get there, remember that Mitsubishi’s lineup has been reduced to three models following the discontinuation of the Mirage hatchback (dealers are now selling leftovers)—the 15-year-old RVR, the Eclipse Cross and the Outlander. The gas variant of the Outlander is due to receive a mid-cycle update for 2025, which we’ll see on February 24. Other than that, changes for 2025 are fairly minor.
As for the prospect of joining a future Honda-Nissan merger, it’s been reported in recent days that Mitsubishi would prefer to pass and remain independent after all, although it would seek to maintain active partnerships and agreements like the one signed in August of 2024 about EV development.
