Pour One Out for These Lexus and Volvo Cars

If you’re a fan of Lexus or Volvo, we’re sorry to inform you that a handful of models have just been discontinued or are about to be. All of them are cars, incidentally, which should come as a surprise to no one.

Sometime in the past few days, Volvo Canada quietly removed the S90 (mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid) as well as the V60 plug-in hybrid from its website. If you go and try to find them, there’s a note saying these models are no longer available as new vehicles in Canada. The company will sell the remaining units on dealer lots.

The elimination of the S90 large sedan was a foregone conclusion. Volvo sold a mere 31 units in the entire country last year, a drop of 79 percent. The newly imposed 100-percent Canadian tariff on EVs and hybrids from China (where the S90 has been built since 2018) was the final nail in the coffin.

Meanwhile, the Swedish-built V60 plug-in hybrid will join the standard V60 that Volvo killed in 2023 and the S60 compact sedan that ended production in South Carolina in 2024. Sales of the V60 in Canada last year fell 34 percent to 406 units.

Looking at the whole Volvo portfolio, the V60 Cross Country and V90 Cross Country are now the only two cars left. That being said, they’re not expected to survive much longer. The latter slipped 20 percent in 2024, with only 164 units sold from coast to coast.

A Sporty Lexus Bows Out

After a decade on the market and more than a combined 90,000 units sold across 62 countries and regions, the Lexus RC and RC F will officially be discontinued in December, Toyota’s luxury brand announced this week. Canadian sales in 2024 amounted to just 121 units.

The 2025 model year marks the end of the road. The V6-powered RC 300 AWD and RC 350 AWD (260 hp and 311 hp, respectively) are both unchanged, but the high-performance, V8-equipped RC F (472 hp) is getting a Final Edition with mechanical and aesthetic enhancements. The number of units is not specified.

In Canada, the RC F Final Edition will be available in a single Incognito (grey) exterior colour. Standard exterior features include a carbon fibre roof, side rocker panels, front spoiler and rear diffuser, lightweight 19-inch BBS alloy wheels, red brake calipers and an active rear wing.

Inside, the car gets a bespoke black and red leather/Ultrasuede interior that comes standard with a Mark Levinson premium audio system and a 10.3-inch touchscreen. A carbon fibre “Final Edition” emblem adorns the front console signifying each car’s production number in this limited run.

The price is set at $115,400 including freight, PDI and other fees, which represents an increase of nearly $13,000 from the 2024 RC F equipped with the Performance Package.
