2025 Jeep Wrangler’s V6 Won’t Be Manual-Only After All

By popular demand, 2025 Jeep Wrangler customers turning to the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 will once again have the option of an eight-speed automatic transmission—at least on four-door models. The previous decision to pair this engine with the six-speed manual gearbox exclusively didn’t sit well with many.

"In response to enthusiastic requests, we're reintroducing the eight-speed automatic transmission for V6 Wrangler models, underscoring our commitment to freedom of choice, performance, and versatility for every adventure," Jeep said in a press release on Tuesday.

Orders are now being accepted through dealers, although the change is not yet live on Jeep Canada’s online configurator.

The company pointed out that the eight-speed TorqueFlite transmission is engineered for smooth operation and maximum efficiency, and pairs seamlessly with the Wrangler’s four available 4x4 systems including Command-Trac, Rock-Trac (part-time and full-time) and Selec-Trac.

The automatic transmission will continue to be the only option with the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine (270 horsepower, 295 lb-ft), the mighty 6.4-litre V8 (470 horsepower, 470 lb-ft), as well as the 4xe plug-in hybrid system (375 horsepower, 470 lb-ft).

In case you didn’t know, a few changes are in store for the 2025 Jeep Wrangler, one year removed from a mid-cycle update. Power locks and power windows are now standard on all models, there’s a new ‘41 exterior paint colour inspired by Jeep’s military olive drab, and an available Active Cabin Ventilation feature makes it possible to pre-ventilate the interior via a mobile app before entering the vehicle.

There’s also a new special edition of the Wrangler 4xe Willys celebrating Jeep’s military roots and the 1941 Willys MB in particular. It starts at an all-inclusive price of $72,290 in Canada. The first units are supposed to show up at dealers before the end of this year.

Knowing Jeep, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more announcements being made later into the 2025 model year. Stay tuned.
