First Mexican-made VUHL 05 supercar delivered to customer
If you haven't heard of VŪHL Automotive, or its VŪHL 05 lightweight supercar, you're forgiven.
The obscure Mexico-based car company, which has been in the news here and there over the last few years, hasn't exactly taken the automotive world by storm.
The tides may now be turning, however, as the company announced it has delivered the first production version of its all-carbon-bodied supercar—with more in the works in the near future.
Weighing a little more than 1,500 lbs. thanks to its Canadian-made carbon fibre body, the VŪHL 05 is powered by a mid-mounted 285-horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine sourced from Ford, giving the car a power-to-weight ratio of 400 horsepower per ton.
With power put to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission—also sourced from Ford—the VŪHL 05 is capable of running from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and has a top speed of more than 240 km/h.
Aside from its carbon body, the VŪHL 05 benefits from further lightweighting through a three-piece aluminum tub that uses both extruded and honeycomb construction, and a chrome-moly subframe.
Pricing in the United Kingdom is said to be £59,995—about $121,000 here.
