A Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe? Hey, why not?

If you think that the term “coupe” refers to a two-door car, welcome to 2016!

That’s right, the word “coupe” now designates a style rather than a body type. A coupe is a vehicle whose roof slopes gradually toward the back rather than dropping abruptly, as they do on sedans.

By the same token, SUV coupes inherit the same flaws as coupe-style cars: limited visibility and less headroom for back-seat passengers.

This week, Mercedes-Benz is pulling the veil off the GLC, their compact SUV. It’s based on the C-Class and shares its platform and mechanical organs. With the recent introduction of the C-Class Coupe, it stood to reason that a GLC Coupe would follow.

Visually, it has the same inspired lines as the Mercedes-AMG GT. But where ride is concerned, we can expect it to be similar to the regular GLC, if we base our assumptions on the differences between the C-Class coupe and sedan.
