British Mustang Customers To Benefit From EcoBoost Option
According to Autocar, the United Kingdom will be getting a very special flavor of Ford Mustang when the redesigned model makes it across the Atlantic - for the first time in this millennium - in 2015. A fresh EcoBoost four-cylinder engine will find its way under the hood of the iconic muscle car in order to better balance performance with fuel economy.
The 2.3-litre unit has been lifted from the Ford Focus ST, where it makes use of a turbocharger to produce 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. In British trim, the unit will most likely be pumped up to generate over 300 horsepower, in part to overcome the additional weight of the larger car.
Although Ford has not completely ruled out the possibility that the EcoBoost motor will be sold alongside the V6 and V8 engines in U.K. dealerships, the projected low take-rate of the thirstier mills makes it likely that eight-cylinder Mustangs will be reserved for the rich or performance-thirsty. More intriguing is the possibility that the next-generation Mustang will be offered with the EcoBoost option in Canada as well, where fuel prices have steadily crept upward over the course of the past decade.
