Canadian Vehicle Sales Sag In February

The DesRosiers report is in for February 2013, and it looks like Chrysler has managed to maintain its sales lead in Canada - a feat it has not been able to duplicate in the United States.  Chrysler sales checked in at 16,764 units for the month, which is just enough to hold off Ford and continue to wear the crown as the most popular automaker in the country.  General Motors took third place, with sales down nearly two percent when compared to February 2012.

Almost every Japanese car company saw its sales plunge during what is traditionally a difficult month across the entire industry.  Nissan led the way with a drop of 14.9 percent compared to last year, with Toyota following closely behind at 13.6 percent and Honda posting a 12.8 percent decrease.  These figures are in contrast to the cross-market sales dip of 3.3 percent between February 2013 and February 2012.

Strong months were had by Volkswagen (10.5 percent), Jaguar (90.2 percent) and Ford (5.4 percent).  Jaguar's figures might seem exceptionally high, but when translated into actual sales the report represents a modest 78 vehicles sold during the course of the month.
