Mitsubishi Finally Killing off Eclipse, Endeavour, Galant

Mitsubishi is an odd company. On one hand, you have the Lancer Evolution, Ralliart, Outlander, and new RVR… on the other hand, you have the Galant, Eclipse, and Endeavour. The former list, all new-ish, all entertaining, and all quite capable, are those cars that you forget about until you see one in the wild, and it reminds you of precisely how good it is. The latter, on the other hand, you simply forget about.

Which is precisely why Mitsubishi apparently intends to axe them from the lineup shortly. The trio of American-made Mitsu’s stopped being competitive in their respective segments years ago, and it has led Mitsubishi to the conclusion that the space currently occupied by those three cars would be much better served by the further development of a series of world car platforms. Already committing to the creation of no less than eight hybrid and battery-powered cars by 2015 to combat rising fuel costs, Mitsubishi has said that they intend to see a sales increase that was just 3% last year grow to a whopping 37% by 2013 or 2014.
