Ford Beats GM in Sales for First Time in Five Decades
Although it may one may see a heck of a lot of Blue Ovals roaming Canada’s streets, the reality has been that General Motors, with its stable of various brands and badges, has owned the top spot on Canada’s sales charts for 50 years. Although Toyota may lay claim to the most popular car in Canada, Canadian’s long-standing reliance on full-size pickup trucks has ensured that General Motors has retained the top manufacturers’ crown, with Ford trailing slightly behind… until last year.
Apparently, Ford managed to swing an amazing 19% sales increase over 2009, culminating in an annual sales total of 267,974 while GM saw “just” 247,104 vehicles sold. Rounding out the top three, Chrysler’s new vehicles obviously helped it sell 204,995. Conversely, segment-leaders Toyota bid adieu to 171,972 vehicles in 2010 with Honda following with 141,070 units sold.
