2024 Nissan Rogue Goes 3-Cylinder Only, Adds Google Built-in

The popular Nissan Rogue is getting a significant mid-cycle refresh for 2024. The model will go on sale early next year with the same four trim levels to choose from—S, SV, SL and Platinum.

First, designers have revised the front and rear fascias, with the most obvious change being the new interpretation of Nissan’s V-motion grille. Satin-finish badges and redesigned alloy wheels are also part of the mix.

The top-line Rogue Platinum you see here further stands out with unique gloss black trim on the lower body and wheel arches, as well as new 19-inch wheels in a two-tone design. The colour palette expands to include Everest White Pearl, Deep Ocean Blue Pearl, Baja Storm and several two-tone configurations with a black roof.

No More 4-Cylinder Engine

The 2024 Rogue is letting go of the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine (181 hp, 181 lb-ft. of torque) that was offered in base S trim. Now, it’s all about the turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine (201 hp, 225 lb-ft.). All models also feature a continuously variable transmission and standard all-wheel drive.

Nissan claims the tiny but mighty triple is more fuel-efficient, which is true if you look at the official NRC rating (7.6 L/100 km combined versus 8.3 L/100 km for the four-cylinder). However, we found in our own tests that it burns just as much gas in real-world conditions. What’s more, throttle response is pretty disappointing. Let’s see how potential customers respond to Nissan’s move.

Now With Google Built-in

In both SL and Platinum trim, the 2024 Nissan Rogue features a new infotainment system with Google built-in on a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen. This means drivers will have direct access to the Google Assistant, Google Maps and more via Google Play. It’s a first for Nissan, and something no other compact SUV boasts right now. Amazon Alexa accompanies the system.

For those who prefer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, both continue to be available, of course (with wireless integration on select models). The Rogue S and SV offer an 8-inch touchscreen.

For 2024, available NissanConnect Services now includes a three-year free trial (up from a six-month trial previously). The telematics feature is standard on SV grade and higher, and works with the MyNISSAN smartphone app.

What else? New colours and textures are applied to the door panels, seats, centre console and passenger-side dashboard trim for a more upscale environment. In addition to the 12.3-inch centre display, a wireless device charging pad and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster are newly standard in SL trim. The Platinum wows with new available Chestnut brown leather upholstery.

Rogue or Kicks?

Pricing for the updated 2024 Nissan Rogue ranges from $33,648-$44,998, which is marginally up from the 2023 models.

With the Qashqai on its way out, the only cheaper crossover in Nissan’s lineup will be the Kicks (starting at $24,874). The next generation is expected to offer more space and available AWD, but likely won’t hit the market before the second half of 2024 as a 2025 model.
