2017 Nissan Rogue Owners Told to Park Outside Due to Fire Risk
Over 42,000 units of the 2017 Nissan Rogue are being recalled in Canada because they may catch fire. Sounds familiar? At the beginning of the year, more than 104,000 2014-2016 Rogues found themselves in the same situation.
The problem is indeed very similar. In some cases, water could leak into the electrical connections in the driver's footwell. This could cause problems with various electric systems like the power windows or power driver’s seat, and the wiring harness could short circuit.
According to the recall notice posted by Transport Canada, said short circuit can create the risk of a fire even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.
As a precaution, Nissan advises owners to park their Rogue outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the repairs have been completed. Dealers will inspect the dash side wiring harness and replace the harness connector if necessary. They will also apply grease to the connector to prevent water intrusion.
Earlier this week, the 2019-2022 Subaru Ascent was also recalled due to a risk of fire. On approximately 13,000 units, a ground bolt in the Positive Temperature Coefficient (PCT) heater may have been improperly fastened.
Back to the Rogue, no risk of a short circuit involving the current generation (2021-present) has been reported so far. However, there are a number of recalls you should know about. The most serious ones involve a potentially defective fuel pump, loose brake callipers and automatic headlights that turn on too late.
