Toyota Pays Plant Workers to Build Houses During Parts Shortage

Due to the March 11th earthquake and subsequent nuclear disaster, Toyota’s Texas Tundra plant has been forced to cut back their shifts due to parts shortages. Now closed on Monday and Friday, Toyota has ensured that their employees will maintain their standard pay rate by giving them two options: paid training, or building houses. Yes, Toyota employees typically charged with producing the largest pickup truck Toyota’s ever built will now be collecting paycheques for building houses in the San Antonio area for Habitat for Humanity.
A genuinely feel-good story, it’s a great way for Toyota to build stronger relationships with both their employees, as well as the local community.
