Earthquakes In Kumamoto: Japanese Manufacturers Band Together To Help

After the recent earthquake that hit the Kumamoto region in Japan, Nissan offered 100 LEAFs and e-NV200 for the recovery effort.

The manufacturer will give 10 million yens, 6,000 water bottles and 2,750 servings of rice to the region. Their main assembly plant has also reopened at full capacity.

«My thoughts are going to the family and friends of the victims, as well as the survivors» said Toyota’s CEO Akio Toyoda. The manufacturer was severely hit by this catastrophe: deliveries of their Prius, Mirai, RAV4, 4Runner as well as Lexus’ ES, LS, IS, GS, RC, NX, RX, GX and LX for the North-American marked will be delayed since their assembly plant were shut down. Toyota also gave 10 million yens to help the victims.

On Subaru’s side, a relief package of 5 million yens will be sent to help. Fuji industries hope that the region will rise again soon.

Honda’s motorcycle factory has been shut down until Wednesday. Mitsubishi has also closed the assembly plant that builds the Lancer and the i-MiEV; however, this won’t affect the North-American market.

The earthquakes –which started on April 14- claimed 42 lives and affected 1,000 peoples. With quakes ranging from 6.5 to 7.3 on the Richter scale, have an epicenter on the Kyushu island in Japan’s southwest.
