Kia Telluride Recalled for Rollaway Risk, All Model Years Affected

Kia recently issued a recall on the Telluride three-row midsize SUV. Every model year of the current generation (2020 through 2024) is affected, representing 18,567 units Canada.

On some of them, the axle shaft(s) may not have been manufactured properly and their splines could become damaged over time. If this happens, the vehicle could move when it's parked and the parking brake isn't applied, increasing the risk of a crash.
Curiously, the remedy is a simple update to the electronic parking brake software—no inspection and repair or replacement of the axle shafts are mentioned in the recall notice.

To reduce the safety risk, Kia also recommends owners to always use the parking brake when the vehicle is parked.

Despite this recall, the Kia Telluride ranks among the safest vehicles on the road, having won a Top Safety Pick+ award from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It’s also one of the vehicles people like the most in 2024 according to Consumer Reports.
