Subaru Previews Widebody WRX

If there’s been one knock against the new WRX, it’s that it forgets its heritage a bit too much. Once a googly-eyed monster with enormous fender flares and rugged, rally-ready suspension, the current WRX looks like little more than tarted-up Impreza.

But apparently all that will change in 2011. Borrowing bodywork from the still-bodacious STI, the 2011 WRX will sit 1.5” wider and will filling those familiar flares with new 17x8 wheels. Shod with 235/45R17 tires, the new WRX will assuredly offer higher levels of grip than the 2010 model, but the big news is that all this newfound girth will be available on both the five-door and four-door models of WRX.

Having alienated many WRX fans when they announced that the widebody stance would only be available on the hatchback-only STI, this wider 2011 WRX sedan should work wonders towards brining many of the more extroverted Scooby enthusiasts back into the fold.
