Canadian-made Ford GT available with carbon fibre wheels

Ford says the Canadian-made GT super car will be available with carbon fibre wheels.

"Ford was the innovator as the first to offer mass-produced carbon fibre wheels as a standard offering on (the) Shelby GT350R Mustang," Ford Performance global director Dave Pericak said in a statement.

"Now, (the) Ford GT will offer the next generation in carbon fibre wheels, with an advanced resin and fiber technology that gives our designers more freedom, while also showcasing the structure of the material's weave."

Unlike the Shelby GT350R's black painted carbon fibre wheels, the optional wheels on the Ford GT will be offered in two finishes—matte or glossy.

This, according to Ford, allows "the stunning nature of the carbon fibre weave to show through," while matching the the two exposed carbon finishes available on the car's sills, fascia and extractor.

Ford says it is working with supplier Carbon Revolution on the new wheels.

Each wheel is more than two lbs. lighter than the forged aluminum wheels that come fitted as standard, according to Ford.
