If the Human Body Evolved as Quickly as the Automobile

This is Graham.

Although he might not be the most attractive man, Graham has an undeniable advantage over you and me; if he was involved in a car accident, he would have a much better chance of surviving.

This humanoid is a creation of the Transport Accident Commission in Victoria, Australia. It was created to remind people just how dangerous a car accident can be, even at low speeds.

Graham’s morphology is the result of specific research to determine what the human body would look like if it developed quickly enough to follow the technological progress of our vehicles.

For example, the skull is oversized and filled with ligaments and fluids destined to absorb an impact like a helmet and protect the brain. In addition, the neck was removed to avoid being broken, and the ribs have been extended upwards for a brace-like structure.

Graham is also capable of avoiding an accident even if he’s not on board; his legs have added joints for extra flexibility and for jumping out of the way of an oncoming car in a “spring-loaded” fashion.
