A 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 Evo Hits the Auction Block

The last generation of the Porsche 911 that followed the original recipe—an air-cooled rear-engine and a manual gearbox—was the 993. Built between 1993 and 1998, this generation is held in high regards by purists, and its value on the market keeps climbing.

The ultimate version of this Porsche is the 911 GT2 Evo: only 11 were built and every single detail of this car is made for it to go faster. Based on a 911 GT2 (which wasn’t slow to begin with), the Evo is sharper in every aspect. Its turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six comes from the 911 Turbo, but it was optimized to develop 600 horsepower. As a comparison, the Ferrari F355 of the same era boasted a mere 375 hp…

The car was then lightened by throwing everything unnecessary for speed out the window: sound deadening, A/C, dashboard, passenger seat… The final result weighs around 1000 kilos.

Finally, engineers added a huge wing at the back for aerodynamic balance, while wider fenders cover the larger tires.

One of those 911 GT2 Evos will be sold by Mecum Auctions; there are no estimates, but it’s possible that this 993 might break into the seven figures. If that’s the case, it would become one of the most expensive Porsches ever sold.

However, the Porsche that commanded the heftiest price tag will remain the 1982 952, which was sold for USD$10.2 million.
