One Million Ford F-150 EcoBoost Pickups Sold

I don’t think you will be surprised if I tell you Ford’s EcoBoost family of engines is a commercial success: since the manufacturer figured how to generate V8 power from a V6 (and a pair of turbos), sales of EcoBoost engines went through the roof. Ford launched its first EcoBoost-powered F-150 in 2011, and the brand recently announced they sold their millionth pickup with this engine type in the United States.

Ford has a few reasons explaining the success of their turbocharged engines. While the 3.5-litre V6 lead the first charge, the new 2.7-litre unit got plenty of success too; in only two months, Ford received 13 000 orders for this powertrain. The announced fuel consumption ratings of 12.3 L/100 km in the city and 9.2 on the open road, which is certainly enticing. Customers report higher numbers in real-world driving, but Ford isn’t the only manufacturer in this situation…
