Big Changes For Formula 1's 2017 Season

The Formula 1 series is governed by a very thick rulebook; every single component of the car – from the wheels to the wings, the suspension, engine and bodywork – has to fit within a set of strict parameters in an effort to prevent cheating and unfair advantages.

The 2017 season will bring a few interesting changes. First of all, aerodynamic components will allow for 25% more downforce. The bodywork is wider, and the front and rear wings will be larger. The 2017 Formula 1 car will be about 20 kilos heavier, though.

The second change is about the tires: they will be 60 mm wider up front and 80 mm wider at the rear. If we add this to the aerodynamic changes, we can safely say that the single-seater will be much faster around corners.

However, the most important of all changes will be made to protect drivers. The 2017 season will see a protective canopy around the driver’s head. The FIA is currently trying out different options, but the Halo developed by Mercedes-Benz is the most realistic one so far; it’s probably this one that will be implemented.
