Volkswagen Golf GTE Sport Concept Lands In North America

In addition to its production models, Volkswagen unveiled a futuristic concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The German manufacturer is displaying the Golf GTE Sport Concept, which made its official debut earlier this year and has been touring auto shows since.

The car is equipped with a hybrid powertrain; under the hood is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 295 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That little powerplant is assisted by two electric motors, one located in the DSG gearbox and another on the rear axle. Total output is estimated at 395 hp and 495 lb-ft.

With all that muscle, the concept is said to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 280 km/h.

Obviously, Volkswagen has no intention of producing such a futuristic car in coming years. However, we can expect the automaker to integrate some of the concept’s technologies into its future products.
