Volkswagen's Jetta Wagon TDI Clean Diesel Named Canada's Most Fuel- Efficient Station Wagon

Volkswagen's 2009 Jetta Wagon TDI Clean Diesel was recognized today by Canada's federal Department of Natural Resources as the "Most Fuel- Efficient Station Wagon" as part of its ecoENERGY initiative to promote fuel-efficiency. The announcement occurred earlier this morning at the 2009 Montreal International Auto Show with the release of Natural
Resources Canada's Fuel Consumption Guide for 2009.

"This recognition by Natural Resource Canada is both tremendous and very timely. Volkswagen is launching its TDI Clean Diesel alternative fuel technology across Canada to give consumers a choice when purchasing or leasing a new vehicle. With today's launch at the 2009 Montreal International Auto Show of our third TDI Clean Diesel offering, the 2009 Touareg, Volkswagen is delivering on its message of sustainable and environmentally responsible driving" according to John White, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group Canada
Inc.

It was also noted that this announcement comes on the heels of the JettavTDI Clean Diesel being named the "Green Car of the Year" during the L.A. Auto Show last November, and the honour of being recognized as the "Earth, Wind, and Power Most Environmentally-Friendly Car" at the International Car of the Year awards in Detroit earlier this week.

The 2009 Jetta Wagon TDI Clean Diesel, and the sedan version, the Jetta TDI Clean Diesel, went on sale in Canada last September. They feature an all-new turbocharged 2-litre inline four cylinder 16-valve 140 HP common rail engine, producing a maximum torque of 236 lb-ft at a low 1750 rpm. Mated with a 6-speed manual transmission, the 2009 Jetta TDI Clean Diesels register a highway fuel consumption rating of 4.8 L/100 km (59 miles per gallon), allowing for more than 1,100 km of driving between fill-ups on only 55 litres
of fuel.

The new emissions control technology allows the new TDI Clean Diesel ultra low emissions engine with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and nitrous oxide catalyst to considerably decrease NOx emissions in order to meet the Federal Government's new stringent anti-pollution standards, and also in all 50 U.S. states. The 2009 Jetta TDI Clean Diesel and Jetta Wagon TDI Clean Diesel can also use B5 bio-diesel fuel to lower CO2 emissions a further 5%, making Volkswagen the first automobile manufacturer to certify B5 bio-diesel
that allows consumers to reduce their carbon footprint even further.

The public can see Canada's Most Fuel-Efficient Station Wagon beginning Friday January 16 at the 2009 Montreal International Auto Show held at the Palais des Congrès. The Volkswagen 2009 Jetta Wagon TDI Clean Diesel will be on display on Level 1 at the Show at the Natural Resources Canada ecoENERGY booth for the duration of the Show until January 25.
