A More Affordable McLaren: The 570S

The trend is currently all about downsizing; while Porsche is launching products in the compact SUV market, McLaren just unveiled an entry-level sports car which will slot in under the 650S, the brand’s $260,000 supercar.

The 570S is the first member of the Sport Series lineup, which will eventually include a few more affordable vehicles. Designed as an answer to the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Audi R8, the small McLaren will have, like its name strongly implies, 570 horsepower coming from the reworked 3.8-litre V8 which is used by McLaren in everything they build. With its seven-speed sequential transmission, the car goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds before eventually hitting 328 km/h. With its adaptive suspension and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, it will boast impressive handling numbers. To make it stop, carbon ceramic brakes come standard.

The cockpit has also been carefully thought out. Everything is controlled via a 7-inch tactile screen. It’s possible to order a full alcantara interior, dress it up in Nappa leather and carbon fibre trim or even have a 1280-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system fitted, in case the engine’s soundtrack isn’t good enough for you…

Geneva2017 McLaren 570GT: the Practical One
Despite being ridiculously fun to drive, most supercars aren’t exactly practical for day-to-day use; they have harsh suspensions and their layout (mid-engine, forward cockpit and minimal weight) are not exactly made for optimal interior accommodations. McLaren wanted a more daily-driveable car that could still embarrass Porsches on a track: here …
