Volkswagen Golf R Touch: A Screen To The Immediate Future

At Las Vegas’ CES 2015, Volkswagen presented an even more technological version of the Golf R: not only does it feature a top-of-the-line AWD system and turbocharged engine, but the Golf R Touch Concept also boasts a few surprises inside.

The first thing that hits you when you see the interior is the size of the touchscreen: at 12.8 inches (measured diagonally), it’s one of the largest in-car screens this side of a Tesla Model S. You can interact with the screen by touching it, or by simply using hand movements in front of it. Another, smaller screen controls the climate control.

The dashboard is also new; using the system found in the Audi TT, the dials and gauges have been replaced by a fully-configurable screen. You can adapt it to show the car’s speed, information about the engine or even show GPS navigation and text messages.

Volkswagen also introduced some ground-breaking technologies: for example, there is an e-Golf that can park itself over an inductive plate for recharging, an app for your phone that can replace your key fob, and a GPS unit that will determine where you are going based on previous destinations and which will suggest a better route if your regular one is blocked.
