Canadian Grand Prix: No Agreement So Far, But... (UPDATED)

While no official statement has been made yet, it would seem that the future is looking good for the Canadian Grand Prix. The popular event has good odds of being renewed until 2024.

A few months ago, François Dumontier, promoter for the race, expressed worries that no agreements had been signed for next season. Bernie Ecclestone also stated that for the Grand Prix to be held in 2015, upgrades had to be made to the facilities on Ile Notre-Dame where the race is held. This would cost between $25 and 40 million. Furthermore, the company responsible for managing the administrative aspects of Formula 1, FOM, asked for a $15 million annual contribution.

However, with the 2014 Grand Prix currently in full swing, everyone is optimistic for the future of the race. The mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, said he was eager to secure the race for the next decade. So far, he has no official statement to make, but he is happy with the negotiations so far.

If we listen to the rumors, the agreements are already drawn up, and they only need Bernie’s signature to become official. Since the Formula 1 Primo arrives on Saturday, we hope to have more news before the end of the Grand Prix!

UPDATE : It is now official, the Grand Prix will happen in Montreal for at least the next 10 years!
