Porsche Tease its Future
Chrysler Fiat presented its 5-year plans earlier this week. Not to be outdone, Porsche decided to give us a few insights on the future of its lineup.
One of the fastest cars ever made, the 918 Spyder, will see some of its technologies trickle down to the more plebeian models. Porsche hopes to bring an e-hybrid program to the Panamera and 911 models. Using the same tech as the 918, they hope to bring out a vehicle with about 700 HP.
The Stuttgart manufacturer also wants to launch a new e-hybrid Cayenne. The SUV would maybe slot over the Turbo S, making it effectively the top-of-the-range model. It may use a new twin-turbo V6.
Two new models are currently under development: a coupe version of the Cayenne (two or four-door), and a Panamera Sport Turismo. This one would be a shooting brake (just like a station wagon, but with 2 doors). Porsche hopes that it will amount to 20% of the total Panamera sales, and they plan on selling it for 20% more than the regular model.
And finally, the manufacturer will launch a GT4 Cayman in the next 3 years. It will be the most powerful Cayman ever made, and according to the rumors, it could be powered either by a flat-six or a new turbocharged 4-cylinder. The new car would also use the 911 GT3’s PDK transmission.
This is good news for Porsche. Even if this plan may anger some of the brand's fans, it is important to note that the best-selling vehicles in the lineup are currently the Panamera and the Cayenne, so it makes a lot of sense to develop those two.
And this may be considered blasphemy by some, but I am really curious to see what a 700+HP, shooting brake e-hybrid Panamera can do…
