GM Working on a Compact Electric Vehicle

Dan Akerson, the outgoing president of GM, confirmed GM’s interest in releasing a compact electric vehicle during an interview he gave to Business Week magazine.

Mr. Ackerson will soon hand the reins over to Mary Barra, the first woman to lead an automotive manufacturer.

He indicated that the new model under development should have a range of at least 320 km however he did not want to identify under what brand it will be marketed.

It is also possible that the electric car could be equipped with a gasoline, diesel or natural gas engine, to provide greater range.

The vehicle is scheduled to be in showrooms by 2016.
