Nissan IDx Concept in Tokyo

Nissan has unveiled two concepts at the Los Angeles Auto Show which are sure to please the brand's enthusiasts: The IDx Nismo and IDx Freeflow concepts.

It's apparent that Nissan is eyeing the success that competitor Toyota is enjoying with the GT-86 and Scion FR-S rear-wheel drive sport coupes. Toyota based those models off of their old AE86 vehicle which was popular with enthusiasts.

It's apprent Nissan wants to capitalize on the popularity of its own classic Datsun 510 or even the old GT-R from the 70s. The IDx's resemblance to the old models is striking.

The IDx Freeflow concept is more of a lifestyle car whereas the Nismo version looks like it came straight out of a video game.

The concept has no motor but Nissan says it will likely have a "1.2-to-1.5L gasoline engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT)".

Nissan engineers will also propose a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine for the Nismo version mated to a CVT gearbox with a six-speed manual mode. Sports seats are covered with Alcantara while a set of retro-style gauges faces the driver.
