Porsche 918 Officially Revealed

The Porsche 918 Spyder supercar has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show to much fanfare. Competition for the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrai, the supercar is also garnering headlines for completing the fastest lap ever for a production car around the Nürburgring.

On Sept 4, several Porsche 918 Spyders set world records at the track with the best time of 6:57.

The Porsche 918 Spyder was briefly seen last month at the Concours d’Élégance at Pebble Beach, but the official unveiling took place at Frankfurt.

The supercar uses a 4.6L V8, making 608 horsepower combined with three electric motors using lithium-ion batteries for a total output of 887 horsepower.

There are two driving modes: E-Power and Race Hybrid. Using E-Power, the car can do 0-100km/h in under 7 seconds with a top speed of 150km.h. In Race Hyrid mode, the vehicle will extract maximum performance in case you need to duplicate the Nürburgring time.

Porsche offers a “Weissach” package for the extreme racer which included ultra lightweight wheels, carbon fiber parts, six-point harnesses and several other goodies for tracking the vehicle.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is listed at $845,000 USD so we can expect something upwards of $930,000 here in Canada.
