New York Auto Show: 2013 World Car of the Year Winners

The New York Auto Show isn’t just an exhibit – it’s also where they announce the winners of the following titles:

  • World Car of the Year
  • World Green Car of the Year
  • World Performance Car of the Year
  • World Car Design of the Year

Some 60 journalists from 25 countries make up the jury, and their mission is to choose which vehicles will be the recipients of the 2013 World Car Awards.

2013 World Car of the Year

Initially, 43 vehicles were in the running to become the 2013 World Car of the Year. But ultimately, the competition was reduced to four hopefuls:

  • Mercedes-Benz A-Class
  • Porsche Boxster/Cayman
  • Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86
  • Volkswagen Golf VI

2013 World Green Car of the Year

The second-most coveted title awarded at the New York Auto Show is "World Green Car of the Year.” The three finalists are:

  • Renault Zoe
  • Testa Model S
  • Volvo V60 Plug-in-Hybrid

2013 World Performance Car of the Year

Whereas one talented vehicle will win the Green Car of the Year award, another will claim the title on the other end of the spectrum: the World Performance Car of the Year. The contenders have been narrowed down to these three:

  • Ferrari F12 Berlinetta
  • Porsche Boxster/Cayman
  • Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86

2013 World Car Design of the Year

More of an honorary title, this award is often overshadowed by the other three distinctions bestowed at this event. The three car design finalists are:

  • Aston Martin Vanquish
  • Jaguar F-Type
