Toyota FT-86 Open Concept: Halting the rumour mill
The cat is out of the bag: Toyota is planning on producing a convertible version of its GT-86.
In North America, this coupe is known as the Scion FR-S. Its clone is the Subaru BRZ.
Today’s news is that Toyota will be the first to market a topless version. The convertible version of the GT-86 coupe will be officially unveiled – as a concept car – at the Geneva Motor Show.
This vehicle is bound to be a hit in North America, where convertibles tend to do well (especially the Ford Mustang). Meanwhile, its biggest rival in Europe will be the über-popular Mazda MX-5.
This convertible will be equipped with the same engine as the coupe: a 2.0L flat-four that delivers 200 horsepower.
It goes without saying that the North American car will go by the Scion FR-S name, and there’s a strong chance that Subaru will do the same with its BRZ coupe.
