BMW 3 Series GT: A follow-up to the 5 Series Gran Turismo
BMW has just posted the first official photos of its 3 Series Gran Turismo.
Stylistically, this car is very similar to its big sister, the BMW 5 Series GT. This should help position the vehicle between this extremely popular line’s sedan and wagon.
In fact, it’s a five-door hatchback sedan whose dimensions are greater than the sedan’s. Specifically, it is 200 mm longer, 110 mm higher and its wheelbase is larger by 81 mm.
The 3 Series GT comes factory-standard with a power liftgate, but if you want to be able to open it by passing your foot under the bumper – like on the new 2013 Ford Escape – you’ll have to pay extra.
Inside, the driver is treated to an extra-high driving position, while rear passengers enjoy added head- and leg-room, plus reclining seats (factory standard). The extremely efficient dashboard remains unchanged.
Cargo space on the 3 Series GT ranges from 520 to 1,600 litres with the seatback down – which is more than the 3 Series Touring offers.

In North America, the BMW 3 Series family is made up of: 320i, 320i xDrive, 328i, 328i xDrive, 335i, 335is, ActiveHybrid3 and M3.
There is a six-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic, with availability depending on the model.
The BMW 3 Series GT will be officially unveiled next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
