VIA Motors present three new vehicles at the Detroit Auto Show

VIA Motors is a small American manufacturer associated with Bob Lutz, the ex-GM executive and charismatic guru of the American auto industry.

The small builder specializes in replacing gasoline powertrains from large, gluttonous vehicles with electric powertrains called e-REV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) similar to the one used in the Chevrolet Volt.

Not surprisingly, the modified vehicles are all from General Motors.

Three New Models for Detroit

Last year, VIA Motors unveiled for the first time, three limited edition models at the Detroit Auto Show. The vehicles, based on the Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban and Express all benefitted from the extended range electric powertrain.

For the 2013 edition of the North American International Auto Show, VIA Motors return with three new ex-fuel guzzlers converted into more environmentally conscious vehicles. The vehicles are:

  • A 12-passenger van;
  • A luxurious multi-segment all-wheel drive vehicle;
  • A powerful 800 horsepower 4x4 truck.
