2013 Porsche Boxster: Third Gen Unveiled in Geneva

Last September, Porsche unveiled the most recent generation of its legendary 911 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. A few months later, the convertible made its world debut at the Detroit Motor Show.

And now, the company will launch the third generation of the ever-popular Boxster at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show.

The incredible lightness of being

The soon-to-be-released Boxster features an aluminum body as well as a much lighter chassis. Its size, however, has increased with a longer and wider wheelbase.

Although the new Porsche Boxster has undergone a very successful facelift, it is still recognizable. The most notable changes were made to the vehicle’s front end, and especially to the new vertical headlamps.

Meanwhile, the rear section has been totally redesigned.

The soft-top retraction system is all-new. It is now electrically operated and takes just nine seconds to open or close.

Passengers will now enjoy a more spacious interior. The dashboard was revamped to better accommodate computer technologies. Hands-free multi-information display is also available.

Still a mid-engine

Two trims are available, each with its own engine:

-    Porsche Boxster: 2.7L H6 with 265 hp (+10 hp)
-    Porsche Boxster S: 3.4L H6 with 315 hp (+5 hp)

The manual gearbox still comes with six speeds, while the seven-speed double-clutch PDK continues to be available on option.

You’ll be glad to know that this roadster comes factory-standard with a Stop-Start system that cuts the engine every time the vehicle comes to a halt.

Boxster and Boxster S performances:

0 to 100 km/hr: 5.7 seconds or 5.0 seconds with the PDK transmission
Average fuel consumption: 8.2 L/100 km and 8.8 L/100 km
CO2 emissions: 192 g/km and 206 g/km

In the end, its fuel consumption has been slashed by 15%.
