The Car Guide will be Driving the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E 63… Hooray!

Driving a Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a privilege. However, driving a Mercedes-AMG E 63 is nothing less than an honour. And we’re honoured to get that opportunity in Portugal this week.

The AMG E 63 promises to be a serious machine, with a twin-turbo, 4.0-litre V8 that develops 563 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, connected to a nine-speed, multi-clutch gearbox—which gets a special clutch for launces on wet surfaces. The 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system will send power to pavement, while its variable torque management will no doubt provide the road manners of a rear-drive car when the driver will want it.

If the E 63 is a serious machine, what could we say about the E 63 S, equipped with the same twin-turbo, 4.0L engine, but with 603 hp and 627 lb.-ft. An output surpassed only by the AMG SL 65, the AMG S 65 and the AMG G 65, which boast a twin-turbo, 6.0L V12 that belts out 621 hp and 738 lb.-ft. With such a powerful V8 engine, and probably just as flexible, the future of the V12 seems in jeopardy.

Obviously, all the technologies we’ve already talked about that are included with the E-Class with find their way in the AMG variants. Actually, they’ll be adding even more high-tech gizmos.

As soon as we get our hands on the wheel of these cars, we’ll have a full report for you. And we won’t be washing said hands anymore.

OTTAWA, Ontario – Mercedes-Benz is calling its latest 2017 E-Class sedan a “masterpiece of intelligence,” and there's not much I can say that goes against it. First Drives2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Technology Gains the Upper Hand
Mercedes-Benz started overhauling its products just over two years ago.
