The Engines Of The 2015 Ford F-150

While we already know much about the 2015 Ford F-150 and its aluminium body, we still don’t have much information about its powertrains. So far, the manufacturer had been somewhat quiet about what mills they would put in their truck, but the situation has been resolved with a recent announcement. So here are the full specs of what you can expect to see under the hood of the future best-selling truck of 2015.

The base engine is a 3.5L normally aspirated V6.It may not have any of those fancy turbochargers, but it can still pump out 283 HP and 255 lb-ft. of torque, which is enough to tow up to 3450 kg (7600 lbs).

The big news is the smallest Ecoboost V6 ever made, a 2.7L unit. It is made out of a compacted graphite/iron alloy and aluminium, like the Powerstroke diesel engines found in the Ford F-250. It can withstand a lot of pressure, and with 325 HP and 375 lb-ft. of torque, it will need to! Offered as a more fuel efficient alternative to the usual mid-range V8, it can tow up to 3850 kg (8500 lbs) without breaking a sweat.

The other Ecoboost mill, the 3.5L V6 from the current generation, is back. Developing 365 HP and 420 lb-ft. of twist, it has proven itself among the Ford crowd in the last few years.

And if you absolutely want a V8 engine, rest assured: the 5L Coyote will still be available, if only to calm a certain category of buyers who can’t live without their V8. It is not the most powerful (360 HP and 380 lb-ft. of torque) and it is obviously not the most fuel efficient option.
