2014 Best Buys: Crossovers over $50,000

Like crossovers under $50,000, these vehicles are part wagon, part SUV. They’re a bit sporty, and actually a bit of everything. They’re not necessarily the most useful of all vehicles, but they tend to be very nicely designed and equipped with all-wheel drive—an essential ally in winter. And yet, crossovers over $50,000 simply aren’t that numerous.

We awarded first place to the 2014 Range Rover Evoque. When it launched, the Evoque’s extra-modern lines set it distinctly apart from other Land Rover products. Since then, it hasn’t felt the “cubic” influence of the others; in fact, the rest of the line has become more like this model. The whole Range Rover line has softened its looks!

Not only is this vehicle available in three- and five-door versions, but its interior is very contemporary. The Evoque offers a tremendously lively ride and surprisingly good road holding, not to mention exceptional comfort.

In second place there’s the 2014 Volvo XC70, whose charms are discreetly expressed through a comfortable and refined passenger compartment. Meanwhile, its trunk is truly enormous. And let’s not forget that the Volvo name is synonymous with safety!

Third place goes to the 2014 Cadillac SRX, a vehicle whose exterior still looks fresh, even after a few years on the market. The interior is comfortable and the engine is in top shape. Solid road holding and a comprehensive list of equipment round out the offer.

Of course, there are several other crossovers over $50,000! These include the 2014 BMW X6, 2014 Buick Enclave, 2014 Infiniti QX70, 2014 Lexus RX, 2014 Lincoln MKT, and 2014 Volvo XC90.
