Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman: 6.4 Meters of Armored Luxury

In an effort to reassert its dominance in the ultra-luxurious limousine segment, Mercedes is currently looking to revive the Pullman moniker. Used for decades to ferry around the wealthiest and most influential people on the planet, the Pullman limousines are renowned for being second to none in terms of luxury and refinement.

Unveiled in 1963, the Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman had 6 doors, and was originally used by royalty and heads of state. It later found its way into the hands of dictators and Mafia leaders. The manufacturer produced 2,677 of them.

The new Pullman will be 6.4 meters long, which is 1.3 meters longer than the standard, plebeian S-Class. To give you a sense of scale, this is more than twice the length of Daimler’s diminutive Smart and its 2.4 meter length!

Just like its predecessors, the Pullman will be available with a bulletproof body capable of withstanding gunfire and small explosions. The windshield is made of safety glass, and is one centimeter thick.

Inside, the seats face each other, enabling the occupants to converse more easily. Furthermore, the partition between the driver and passengers is equipped with an electrochemical film, and can become transparent or opaque at will.

However, all this luxury comes at a price: Mercedes-Benz estimates that the Pullman will cost more than a million dollars. This is more than twice the price of a Rolls-Royce Phantom, but for the people who will cross-shop these vehicles, $500,000 is just small change…
