The Mazda5 minivan is now gone from the US market, but it's coming back here for 2016, perhaps for the last time. Based on the previous Mazda3 platform, the Mazda5 shuns any SKYACTIV components and keeps its old 157-horsepower 2.5-litre engine. Both the GS and GT trims offer the choice of a 6-speed manual (the only one you'll find in a minivan) or 5-speed automatic. This vehicle’s best attribute remains its practical 6-seat interior, accessible through wide-sliding doors.

Test Drives2012 Mazda5: The Smartest Car I Don't Want
I’m young. Quite young. If I was a car, I’d be trapped in that awkward phase of old enough to be cheap, but not old enough to be cool. I would be a Yugo. This should tell you everything you need to know about my stance on minivans. And who …
First Drives2012 Mazda5: The right recipe?
In the automobile world, there are two ways to develop a vehicle. The first is to create a product that is as spectacular in concept as it is in execution. Then you sit back and wait until it is nearly obsolete before developing another. This was certainly the recipe that …
Comparative TestsDodge Grand Caravan vs. Mazda5: With sliding doors
For years, people have been saying that crossovers will soon outnumber minivans. Test DrivesThe 2010 Mazda5: The Mini Minivan That's So Much More
When it comes to automobiles, few conjure up such feelings of derision as the much maligned minivan. Created to address the needs of a burgeoning middle class in the mid eighties, the minivan became the ride of choice for the third generation of baby boomers. Pairing the fuel economy of …

In the province of Quebec, the minivan that is most often seen, and this for a good number of years, is the mega popular Mazda5. Back home, it was offered under the Mazda MPV name between 2000 and 2005 and then became the Mazda5. Now the time has come for …
GenevaNew Mazda5 Geneva-Bound
The Mazda5 gets absolutely no press these days. Having been out for what feels like eons, it’s still a solid performer on the sales floor thanks to its diminutive size and peppy performance. For those who need a minivan but despise them, it’s a great alternative to the full-size soccer …
