The Chevrolet Volt is the best-selling plug-in hybrid car in North America. Drivers like its 85-kilometre EV range, courtesy of an 18.4-kWh battery pack. Many owners practically never use the 1.5L gasoline engine that acts as a generator. The heart of the Volt is its Voltec system that generates 149 horsepower (electric motors combined). On a 240V outlet, it takes 4.5 hours to charge the Volt’s batteries.
