Microsoft Unveils Windows Embedded Automotive 7
Ford’s Sync system, initially considered something of a triviality, has become a major selling feature for the Blue Oval brand. It’s also made everyone else’s connectivity and control systems seem downright outdated.
And now it looks like everyone else might have a shot at greatness. Although Microsoft created the sync system, the clock appears to be running down on Ford’s exclusive hold on such a system as Microsoft is now unveiling what they’re calling Windows Embedded Automotive 7. With such key features as voice recognition, touch screen input, Bluetooth phone communication, and advanced dashboard systems for access to music, maps, third-party apps and navigation, the awkwardly named system sounds similar to that already employed by Ford, and so it should. According to the press materials, MyFord Touch; the second generation of Sync, is underpinned by Windows Embedded, as is the multimedia and information hub in Nissan’s new Leaf and Fiat’s Blue&Me Bluetooth and media interface.
