Canada’s Cheapest New Car is Going Into Retirement
The Nissan Versa is retiring. The Car Guide has learned from a company spokesperson that production of the small Japanese sedan came to an end in September.
Therefore, there will be no 2026 model. Dealers are currently busy selling off the remaining 2025 models in their lots.
The Versa was not only the last remaining subcompact car on the Canadian market, but also the most affordable new vehicle in the country, with an all-inclusive price of $23,415 (before tax).

With 3,344 units in the first three quarters of 2025, Versa sales were up 45 percent compared to the same period in 2024. Its 122-horsepower, 1.6-litre inline four-cylinder engine made it both one of the slowest and most fuel-efficient vehicles (excluding hybrids) available, thanks to an average consumption of 6.8 L/100 km.
From now on, Nissan Canada plans to attract budget-conscious shoppers with its redesigned 2026 Sentra, which is due to arrive in dealerships by the end of the year, although pricing remains unknown at the time of writing. Let's not forget the Kicks crossover, starting at $29,991.

Incidentally, the Sentra and Kicks are both manufactured in the same factory that built the Versa, in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Following the discontinuation of the Versa, the cheapest new vehicle in Canada becomes the Hyundai Venue, whose 2026 model starts at an all-inclusive price of $24,971.
