Guess Who Makes the List of the Most American-Made Vehicles of 2025
The new U.S. tariffs on foreign-made vehicles are designed to force automakers and their suppliers to increase production on American soil. However, Canada has retaliated with countertariffs on vehicles imported from our neighbors to the south, which will have a significant impact on prices and availability of several models—that is, until a new trade agreement between the two countries is reached.
Mazda Canada, for example, stopped importing the CX-50 on May 12, as this SUV is assembled in Alabama at a joint assembly plant with Toyota, which builds the Corolla Cross there.

What are we getting at? For the 20th year, with Independence Day approaching, Cars.com has released its American-Made Index, highlighting and ranking the top 100 vehicles manufactured in the country. The study is based on five main criteria including final assembly location, percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts, engine origin, transmission origin and U.S. manufacturing workforce. Various eligibility rules come into play.
For 2025 models, Tesla secures the top four places, as it did two years ago, but this time it's the Model 3 sedan that tops the list. Japanese manufacturer Honda (including its luxury brand Acura) claims as many as eight places in the top 20, which is made up as follows:

Acording to Cars.com, the Kia EV6 SUV features the highest U.S./Canadian parts content percentage of any vehicle sold in the U.S. today at 80%. Combined with production moving from South Korea to West Point, Georgia, the EV6 doesn’t just mean a new name on the list, it also marks the first time all-electric vehicles have been the majority of the top 10.
Have you noticed the massive presence of Japanese and Korean brands? Other than Tesla, the only vehicles from American brands in the top 20 are the Jeep Gladiator (5th) and Wrangler (13th) as well as the Chevrolet Colorado (19e). The highest-ranked Ford models are the F-150 Lightning (22nd) and Explorer (23rd).
